Just read a couple posts about hurricane evacuation.

This has a link to a long blog with lots of information on Katrina, and all the stuff that went wrong.

There is some information on the pet problems people had.

So what would you do with children, pets, and evacuation problems?  Have you had experiences like this?

  1. Thankfully I have not had to evacuate my family. I remember a few times as a kid evacuating because of forest fires. My mom always loaded me and the dogs into the station wagon and drove us all to a friends house in town. I hope that I would be able to do the same. If not I'd have to choose my kids over my dog. I hate to actually say outloud that I might leave our old friend behind, but if staying to find him meant putting my kids in danger that is the call I would have to make! It is something important that we should all think about before it actually happens, thanks for the post!

  2. Thanks for the information. A gripping account of pet problems in Katrina was from Megadoom. He had a loong account of his experiences in Katrina. Had to leave his cats in the house, the dogs in a shed or outside and the cats drowned, dogs survived.
